Sixth Form Dinner The awards distributed at the sixth form dinner last Saturday night certainly acted as a stark reminder that year 13 are speeding through their final year at school. 'Most likely to get ID-ed at thirty'; 'Most likely to become Prime Minister' and 'Most likely to become Miss Universe' (Matilda, Lucy and Rosa respectively) created a ripple of laughter of course, but projecting into the – albeit fictitious- future inevitably brings with it a sense of anticipated nostalgia: We love the year 13s, but can't hang onto them for much longer! Linked to that feeling is the realisation that the fun is now over for a while as girls enter a period of intense study. We certainly wish them well for their revision over half term and the mock week that follows. On a different note, the week saw a cosy gathering of year 11s centered around sofas and pizza as Ms. Piñán kindly hosted her tutor group social event. Lasting almost two hours, this was just the tonic for year 11 at the end of a difficult half term. Mr. Hughes clearly had similar ideas yesterday morning with his sugary breakfast of doughnuts for the year 12s. Our senior girls have enjoyed some treats this week! Pimlico Sport Bel, Diana and Anna A did us proud in the swimming gala in Sedburgh on Wednesday. Senior girls won their section and Anna A proudly won all her races except one, in which she came second! What a fantastic effort from our swimmers. Hockey first team was no less successful when Rosa and our Pimlico first team players brought home an easy win against RGS. Impressive! As we look beyond the haven of half term, (it is only a week, after all), please can I remind all year 13s that they must sign in and out of the House as they enter and exit school site during their mocks. Use of studies in the House is restricted only to those who are working hard: Girls have already been reminded that this doesn't include study chats and endless cups of tea. Reading Week The return also marks the beginning of Reading Week. Girls have been asked to carry a book with them throughout the week and, on Thursday, to dress up as a character from 'A Classic' if they wish to. Please can I request that this doesn't include the dubious and lazy option of jeans and a sweatshirt? A copy of 'The Classic' from which the character is taken is required for entering Thursday's best costume competition. Open Morning A little further afield and our second Open Day is upon us. Please note the message below from Ms. Thompson: This term's Foundation's Open Morning takes place on Saturday, 8 March. Each year, we ask pupils to attend School on our two Open Mornings. Pupils' roles on the days include acting as tour guides, helping in individual Departments and with clubs' displays, and welcoming visitors in the Houses. Pupils should therefore expect to be in School from 8.30am to 12.30pm on 8 March. Please note that Open Morning is viewed as a school day and therefore pupils are expected to attend. If, for any reason, this is not possible, please let me know. Of course, if your child is representing the School in a sports fixture on the morning, or is a Cathedral Chorister, we will ensure that they are able to fulfil these commitments. Looking forward to a renewed vigour as we return on 3rd March, I wish you all a restful and productive half term break. |
