School House News Lots of excitement in the house this week with both the junior disco and the Sixth Form Dinner taking place. It would be fair to say that though both events have a (rather questionable) DJ, that is where the similarities end; however, I am sure a great time will be had by all! A reminder it is the end of term next week and the house will close for all pupils at 4:30pm (we should be back form cathedral around 3:50 so please feel free to collect the boys as they arrive back. Boarders were pleased to hear that they do not have to fully empty their rooms so boarding parents can plan for the boys to travel lightly. Academics at School House Our exam groups have received their summer exam timetables and if these don't serve as a wakeup call for the fast-approaching exam season, nothing will! It looks like exams are going right through to latish June, so it is going to be a long summer term for those sitting external exams. Year 9 have their parents evening next Tuesday and this is a great chance to discuss GCSE options with staff. As always, should any extra help be needed, please contact your son's tutor. Teachers have also submitted half term grades this week so these will be with you in the coming weeks. A reminder that Year 13 have their mock exams just after half term so they should be busy over the holiday! School House Sport Rowing Our rowers back were back on the Tyne last weekend for what proved to be a very cold morning's racing. Not to be perturbed, the boat club did what they do best, got out the water and pushed through. Ed D, Matthew W, Alexander P-L and Johnny M finished 2nd overall in the quad for the whole day, Tony G and Jason W, finishing just behind the J18 4x. Johnny M and Jason W returned to the doubles in the afternoon securing good finishing positions. Rugby It was an excellent afternoon for our U14 Rugby players with a well-earned victory in the Charlton 7s held down at Maiden Castle. Bungites was well represented with Freddy R, Emile B, Archie M, Alfie S, Barney W (Capt) Thomas X and Ben R all taking part. The boys were worthy winners and set the rugby club up for a good week. the games were refereed by senior pupils and thanks go to Fergus F and Lucas H from Bungites. Our U17 XV beat Dame Allans on Wednesday afternoon 52-7. Andrew S scoring the try of the game with a zig zagging run before quite literally splashing down. Chess A sport of sorts, Chess is a work out for the mind so it was great to see our chess team, including Leander B head off to a fixture this week. Awards Academic awards this week go to: Rupert A, Ethan B, Sebastian C, Alex C, Charlie D, Jesse E, Sam F, Will G, Vincent H, Marcus H, Mustafa H, Xavier J, Louie M, Evan M, Louie M, Kenneth P, Dani P, Tom R, Ben R, Indiana R, Kanishk S, Robbie S, Miles V, Joseph W, Louie W, Hayden W, Jason W, Thomas X Congratulations to all of the boys listed above. Boarding Our boarders are off to play some Paddle this weekend and I am sure the boys will enjoy playing the staff! Last weekend we had trips to the cinema and a bit of shopping before pizzas on Saturday night. I would like to think the boys will attempt some tidying this weekend in preparation for next Friday- we will do our best! Open Morning (Message from the Deputy Head) This term's Foundation's Open Morning takes place on Saturday, 8 March. Each year, we ask pupils to attend School on our two Open Mornings. Pupils' roles on the days include acting as tour guides, helping in individual Departments and with clubs' displays, and welcoming visitors in the Houses. Pupils should therefore expect to be in School from 8.30am to 12.30pm on 8 March. Please note that Open Morning is viewed as a school day and therefore pupils are expected to attend. If, for any reason, this is not possible, please let me know. Of course, if your child is representing the School in a sports fixture on the morning, or is a Cathedral Chorister, we will ensure that they are able to fulfil these commitments. Housekeeping As I mentioned above, the school runs take place on Monday. I would like to see every Bungites talking part and doing what they can for the house- regardless of sporting ability. The run, for me, is more about participation and I will have the utmost respect for everyone who fronts up and tries to earn points for the house. I have included this in housekeeping as there may well be some very muddy kit on Monday evening, so I wanted to apologise in advance! Next Friday, the house will close for half term at 4:30 (following Cathedral) so do please organise collection with the boys. The school buses will leave at this time, too. We open again on Sunday 2nd March at 6pm for Boarders. For boarding parents, please do not organise the boys' travel back to school before then as the house will be locked and, more importantly, staff are not on duty. I wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend. |
