The theme of the week for our House would definitely be 'busy'. There have been a raft of activities that the boys have been involved in and there have been many tired bodies, but the smiles in the pictures that have been taken say it all. Valentines Day Disco The Valentines Day disco tonight that was in alliance with Lodge House and strictly Year 7 only gained momentum as, tentatively, the boys worked out who was attending, then they all decided there was safety in numbers. Granted, it's a Valentines disco, but the boys and indeed the girls see it as a chance to socialize. Casting my mind back to all of those years ago when I was in Year 7, the thought of talking to girls was classed as absolutely petrifying and fearful, however, this environment fosters the chance to relax and be more at ease in these situations- that's why the House system is great. Taiwanese Guests The Taiwanese visit was really well organized and everyone who was involved thoroughly enjoyed the responsibility of being a 'buddy' to our visitors. The Year 8 boys (and, yes, I am biased as they are my tutor group) were particularly brilliant at hosting. I saw them grow and develop the need to be responsible for others as they took the role really seriously and ensured our visitors had a great experience. News at Caffinites Our Deputy Head of House, Innes, had the added pressure of his A-level Drama final performance piece this week and I'm pleased to say it went well. He prepared, delivered and gave it everything he had on the day and that's all anyone can do. As the university offers roll in for all of our Upper 6th, I hope they get a sense of what they need to do to move towards their goal. I may be showcasing the skills of my tutor group yet again, but on Thursday (as per the image), we finalized our effort for the up-cycling milk bottle scheme that we have been focusing on in LWE tutor sessions. We created a planter out of plastic bottles and as some of you may know, I like my plant so it's worked out quite well. Open Morning This term's Foundation's Open Morning takes place on Saturday 8th March. Each year, we ask pupils to attend School on our two Open Mornings. Pupils' roles on the days include acting as tour guides, helping in individual Departments and with clubs' displays, and welcoming visitors in the Houses. Pupils should therefore expect to be in School from 8.30am to 12.30pm on 8 March. Please note that Open Morning is viewed as a school day and therefore pupils are expected to attend. If, for any reason, this is not possible, please either Mr McMillan or I know. Of course, if your child is representing the School in a sports fixture on the morning, or is a Cathedral Chorister, we will ensure that they are able to fulfil these commitments. ![]() |
