I want to begin the final Friday Flyer of 2025 by saying a massive thank you to all for your support of the house this year. Of course, School House is the place it is because of your boys, but underpinning that is the amazing support they receive from you. It has been a brilliant year, with so many high points, and I feel incredibly fortunate to spend so much time with such a superb group of young men. They are an absolute credit to you and fantastic Dunelmians. We have so much to look forward to, and I am excited to see what they can all achieve. As well as the joys of everything this week we are also sad to say goodbye to 4 of our boys, Eden, Adrian, Alejandro and Justus and we wish them well in their future endeavours. We also say goodbye to Mr Hall who leaves us to pursue a new career. Mr Hall's contribution to the house is immeasurable, and he will be a huge miss to both staff and boys alike. We wish him well in his new adventure. Mr Turnill moves into the house to be resident tutor, and he also takes over as our Year 7 Form tutor. For those who do not know, Mr Turnill is a former Head of House and very much a Bungite at heart. House Suppers Junior Wednesday afternoon was House Suppers, and Mr Brownlee organised a fun-filled (and loud!!) afternoon for the boys. After presentations and a meal, the boys had a great time playing games and having a laugh! The boys, as always, were brilliant company and on top form. Senior Last night it was the turn of the seniors and they did not disappoint. The boys looked superb in their dinner suits and I thank them all for making such an impressive effort. The evening started with welcome drinks and speeches followed by a meal then House Entertainments. For me, I get the chance to remind the boys of all they have achieved and the unbelievable amount they achieve throughout the year. So many highlights and lots of fantastic moments to reflect on. The meal was lovely then it was time for entertainments. First up we had a boat club v rugby club blind date. We mixed it up this year and challenged each year group to re enact their favourite Christmas movie (with a twist) and then finish their performance with a Christmas song. As you can imagine, the standard was variable; however, good fun was had by all. year 13, as is tradition, finished the night off with their take on the Nativity story... enough said. Very special shoutout to Mason A (Year 13) for his hilarious portrayal of the angel. DHM Diary While there have certainly been lots going on this week, the focus has of course been on the end of term celebrations. And what an afternoon the junior boys had on Wednesday! The festivities started with the annual Christmas lunch in Big School, and once again I want to commend the boys on their conduct and manners throughout. Following the turkey and trimmings, we retired to our common room for speeches, year group awards and the all-important house entertainment. This year was my first opportunity to coordinate the entertainment, and it was great to see all of the boys embrace and enjoy the activities. The sight of the tutors (Mr Hall, Mr Clayton and Mr Bedworth) decked-out as Christmas trees will live long in the memory, and we also had VERY competitive rounds of finish the Christmas lyrics and a Christmas-themed mallet's mallet (those of you who are old enough to remember the Saturday morning staple Whackaday will appreciate this). Congratulations to year 7 for the overall victory and to everyone who received awards on the day. Let's make next term equally as memorable as the one that has just passed. Lauds This Week Kayode A Adam A Martin B William C Cooper C Jack D Max D Harry D Jesse E Miles F William G Vincent H James H Marcus H Mustafa H Vance M Evan M Adrian MA Archie M Will O Evan P Sam P Bill Q Freddy R Ben R Indiana R Alfie S James S James S Joseph W Thomas X Jack Z Laud Leaderboard harry M - Term Winner!!! Sebastian C Marcus H Evan M Indiana R House Colours Just so that you know, House Colours are awarded based on the amount that the boys do for the house. I have a spreadsheet with all of their names on and they awarded up to 3 points a year for a variety of activities (ranging from doing house tours to speaking in chapel). A total is then kept and once the threshold is hit, colours are awarded. All of the boys awarded House Colours should be very proud of themselves, and I hope seeing the ties inspires others to get themselves involved and represent the house. Every single one of them can 'earn their stripes' and it will always be one of the proudest parts of my job giving the boys their ties. This term we awarded Half House colours to- Johnny M, Hedley W, Matthew B and Tom R with Full House colours going to Simon C, Zac H, Fergus F. Huge congratulations to them all. Housekeeping I hope the boys return to you after school today with all of their belongings and, if so, they have achieved their mission! For your info, the house reopens at 6pm on Monday 12th January (later time due to staff training) for boarders with everyone else back on the 13th January. Finally, on behalf of all of us here in Bungites, we wish you a very enjoyable Christmas holiday and a wonderful New Year. |
