From the Principal
Friday, 12 December 2025

Whilst waiting for last Friday's Chapel service, I interrogated Father Simon about his favourite liturgical colour, and recommended Cordings of Picadilly [other retailers also exist] as an outfitter of trousers which could accompany the season, including a Sarum Blue for Advent! This week has seen me finally cast away the work of darkness that was my own hot pink cast which has accompanied me these last 5 weeks. Having not had a cast since I was much younger, thee weeks have provided daily reminders of the need for patience, willingness to be helped, gratitude for the help of others, patience with myself, and advance planning for even the most mundane tasks – as well as a stock of treasury tags as ersatz cuff links for a fat left arm. Hopefully, this will have served as a metaphorical boot camp for the Christmas holiday!

This week, the year 11s enjoyed a Future Pathways session, and we are incredibly grateful to the President of the OD Society, Chris Elliot, who spoke about presence in the careers market from his experiences as a professional head-hunter. This event will be further supported after Christmas with similar sessions as well as the Careers Networking Breakfast in February. Alongside the need to recognise that good achievement provides choices, is also the desire to build the soft skills that define how we work and interact with others.

Arrangements for the various pupil events next week have already been published, and we are looking forward to marking the end of term and also the 'beginning' of the Christmas feast with House Suppers. I do hope you are able to join us in the Cathedral next Friday for the service of Nine Lessons and Carols as one of the highpoints of the School Calendar.

I offer my best wishes for the weekend.
