Celebrating the Life of Bishop Thomas Langley
Friday, 21 November 2025

Yesterday, we celebrated Langley Day in the Cathedral with a special service of Evensong. The Durham School Chapel Choir sung with the Cathedral Choristers and representatives from each House in Chorister School and Durham School laid a floral tribute on the tomb of Thomas Langley in the Galilee Chapel. Thomas Langley was Bishop of Durham between 1406 and 1437. During this time, he reorganised the Cathedral's schools into two, one for grammar and the other for song. Today we now know these schools as Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation.
