Even accepting that time is not a constant, I remain impressed at the way in which the academic year accelerates as we live through it; that which appeared to be far away only a few weeks ago, seems now to be almost here – be that Christmas, mock exams, Easter, or even GCSE and A-level examinations. School life is an intense existence and the milestones of the year hurtle pass at an alarming rate! Please do keep a check on the Calendar as we enter potentially the busiest period of the academic year. For those pupils preparing to embark on the next phase of their education, this can be daunting, especially as increasingly definitive decisions are required of them. Just under half of the UVI has submitted UCAS forms and offers are already returning at pace, and the year 11 pupils have the latest information session on Sixth Form on Tuesday. The is the next stage in providing information, advice, and guidance on subjects, courses, and how these might fit future ambitions; there is time for reflection and consideration, but this can only properly happen if the right information is shared. The evening starts at 6pm on Tuesday, and I do hope pupils and parents will be able to join us. Thursday sees the commemoration of the life of Thomas Langley, Bishop of Durham, who re-endowed the School in 1414; the School and Cathedral choirs will sing a joint service of evensong at 5.30pm, and parents and members of the School community are invited to attend. Earlier this week, the School netball team was successful in progressing to the next round of the National Cup after Tomorrow sees the Junior Fours Head, and I offer my best wishes to all those participating; look ahead, the first XV plays Barnard Castle at Mowden Park next Friday. I do hope you have a good weekend. |
