Bungites
Friday, 14 November 2025

It has been another busy week in Bungites with lots happening and boys travelling around the North East to represent the school. For us, Music Rehearsals have dominated the week though there have also been a few (very damp) fixtures, Drama rehearsals and a parents' evening.

Academic

It was great to see so many Year 7 parents on Tuesday for Parents' Evening for what I hope was a useful evening. Please contact Mr Hall should you have anything you would like him to follow up. For our seniors, coursework deadlines in Art and Design are appearing on the horizon so the boys must make good use of their own time. UCAS applications are also being prepared and I would hope these serve as motivator as the boys begin the last leg!

Music

As you all know, House Music is next Wednesday evening. The boys will stay with us after school, have food (no charge) and will be free to collect once the competition has finished (should be 8:30pm). There will be no school transport after the event. The evening will hopefully be filmed so that you can see what the boys do! With it being in Cathedral, there will be no space for parents to spectate.

Sport

It has been great to see lots of Bungites representing the school across the age groups this week though the rain, and a gut-wrenching late cancellation, have caused much frustration. The block fixture against Woodhouse Grove were as tough ever last weekend with all of the boys playing knowing they'd been in a game. The two games here in school were both very close with single scores separating the teams. Our U15s lost in the cup and were very disappointed not to be progressing, Our U13 XV took on their RGS counterparts in apocalyptic conditions on top ground yesterday with a good win recorded. Durham LDS and SBH took place that weekend and was successful race on home water. Marcus H raced on his first head race in the single and did incredibly well. Matthew W, Jason Wrack and Simon G put in a top performances in there crew boats and singles, finishing high up in the order. Johnny M and Justus M also racing well in the coxed quad with Justus and Nicky W doing well in the single. Overall a good weekend for Bungite rowers.

DHM Diary

A somewhat damp and dreary week has certainly been elevated by the behaviour and achievements of the pupils in year 7 to 10. A huge shout-out firstly to year 7, who have achieved a fantastic 15 Lauds across the week; this is the most of any year group in the house and, impressively, for such a variety of reasons - poetry, music, drama, test performances to name but a few. It was great to see the boys who represented the junior rugby team bounce back from the disappointments of last week to produce a wonderful performance against RGS on Thursday, a real demonstration of character. Character is something that has also been in full show during the final rehearsals for the House Music event; it's a real pleasure to see the younger years embrace the performance and their roles, and we really are in for a treat on Wednesday. Good luck everyone and remember what Simon says - listen carefully for the 'strum strum'!

Boarding

A busy week for our boarders with weeknight trips on the schedule. On Wednesday, some of the boys went to watch Dear England at The Theatre Royal in Newcastle and last night, we all went to see the Lumiere Festival in Newcastle. We have a relatively quiet weekend this weekend though there are rumours of a social... Movember Hyrox As you will have seen, I have sent a letter explaining our fundraising efforts for the Movember campaign. This will culminate in our School House Hyrox event, a great challenge that I know the boys will embrace. House Keeping

To give you a heads up, I am going to be ruthless when issuing Wednesday after school detentions for chewing gum in school. There will be no exceptions as I begin my quest to rid the house of spoiled carpets and trodden in gum.

I wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
