Wellbeing - Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Week
Friday, 17 October 2025

What a truly inspiring and uplifting week we've had celebrating Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) across the Foundation! From thought-provoking discussions to creative student-led displays, our community came together to explore the theme of prejudice, reflect on fairness and respect, and celebrate the rich diversity that makes our school such a special place.

A huge thank you to all our parents and families who contributed so generously to our Cultural Heritage Day on Tuesday. The range of fascinating objects, beautiful traditional articles, and delicious bakes was extraordinary. Students thoroughly enjoyed the chance to explore and interact with these items, learning first-hand about the cultures and stories that shape our global community.

Week in Review

• Monday – Launch & Awareness Last week began with an assembly led by Dr Alderson on introducing the theme of Prejudice and why equality, diversity, and inclusion matter to us all, based around an experiment using eye colour. Students then shared their own reflections by writing what equality means to them on red cards, proudly displayed on each House's "Wall of Respect."

• Tuesday – Understanding Diversity Our Culture Showcase tables in each House became vibrant hubs of discovery, filled with flags, facts, traditions, and artefacts from around the world; thanks again to our wonderful parents!

• Wednesday – Speaking Up Against Racism Students made personal pledges to challenge discrimination by adding thoughtful messages to their "Pledge Tree"—a powerful symbol of our collective commitment to inclusion.

• Tuesday & Thursday – Allies in Action During tutor time, students explored what it means to be an ally—to stand up for others, to listen, and to promote fairness in everyday life. Responses were shared on whiteboards and recorded for our exhibition.

• Friday – Celebration of Inclusion The week concluded with reflections shared during our Cathedral service and a special display in Big School combining our Wall of Respect, Pledge Trees, and student reflections. It was a fitting celebration of how diversity strengthens and enriches our school community.

Every student also received a red pin badge to wear proudly on their blazer lapel in support of 'Show Racism the Red Card' Day, reminding us all that inclusion is not just for one week—but a value we live every day. Together, we will continue to make DCSF a place where every voice is heard and every individual is valued.
