Just like that, the end of the first half-term is upon us. The summer holidays are a distant memory now, as everyone is focusing on the upcoming Christmas term and the festive activities. Despite the shift in weather at the start of this week, with cooler temperatures and less daylight, the boys' spirits remain undaunted. I have been impressed by their enthusiasm and determination to end this week on a high. House Music House Music has been the topic of conversation throughout the school, with the boys spending a considerable amount of time preparing for the competition. The competition will be hotly contested on 17th November, as each House will perform a unison and part song in the Cathedral. My thanks go to Charlie C, James T and Danny E for arranging and conducting both elements. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Week This week, we have been celebrating Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Week, encouraging all pupils to reflect on the importance of respect, understanding, and fairness. The week began with a Monday assembly led by Dr Alderson, introducing the theme of Prejudice and exploring why equality, diversity, and inclusion matter. Throughout this week, the House have been taking part in a range of engaging activities, ranging from sharing what equality means to them on our "Wall of Respect", to exploring global cultures through the Culture Showcase on Tuesday. On Wednesday, pupils added their promises to the "Pledge Tree", committing to stand up against discrimination and support inclusion, while Thursday's tutor time focused on being an ally and promoting fairness. The week concluded with a celebration of inclusion during the Cathedral service and a display in Big School showcasing the week's highlights. All pupils received a red pin badge to wear on their blazer in support of Show Racism the Red Card Day. Open Day Last week's Open Day was a tremendous success, and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the pupils who helped make it such a memorable morning. Over 100 families visited the Foundation, and our pupils did a fantastic job showcasing everything we have to offer. Their professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication were evident throughout the morning, and I received numerous compliments from visiting families about how well our pupils represented the school. The entire school community played a part in making this Open Day a success, and I am proud of everyone who contributed. As always, the lost property bag is quickly filling up, so I kindly ask you to check that your son has all his uniform and sports kit, as many items remain unnamed. Additionally, please ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled, as it becomes challenging to return lost items without a name. Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated! As mentioned in my welcome letter at the start of this academic year, invitations have now been sent to you for a parents' drinks reception on Friday 21st November 2025. The evening is always a fantastic way of meeting the House staff in an informal environment and a way of putting names to faces. It is also an evening where you will be able to meet other parents too. The event will start at 7.30pm and should finish by approximately 9:30pm. If you would like to attend, please could you RVSP using the electronic form via the invitation or my email address: a.mcmillan@dcsf.org.uk Have a great half term. ![]() ![]() |
