Had I remembered about National Poetry Day in time, I would have picked the final lines from 'Alumnus Football', (Grantland Rice) as our quote of the week: "Keep coming back, and though the world may romp across your spine, Let every game's end find you still upon the battling line; For when the One Great Scorer comes to mark against your name, He writes - not that you won or lost- but how you played the Game". In line with this year's chosen theme of 'Game', the lines also echo many of our values here in Pimlico. In encouraging all girls to keep battling on, we also emphasise that how they do this matters just as much: That the true value of victory places mutual support alongside personal gain and kindness over selfishness. Belatedly, Grantland Rice may find his way to our quotes board next week. Regardless, I hope many Pimlico girls feel inspired to enter the poetry recitation competition and I look forward to hearing the verses they learn. Musical lyrics are also the order of the week as Pimlico begins rehearsals for the House music competition. We call any singers in the House to put themselves forward for Part Song as we are low on numbers here and we ask all girls to sing like troupers in their practices. Naturally, Abba's Super Trouper demands nothing else! It was great to read about the U14s second position in the hockey regional county cup this week, (well done, Ella!) and to hear Charlotte B named as 'player of the match' in the netball tournament last week. Josephine is to be commended also for her confident and clear delivery of the chapel reading on Friday. Today's Friday Fun award is joint and goes to Celia in year 7 and Dorothy in year 11 for stepping in to do duties their friends couldn't manage. Well done, girls! Otherwise, the week has seen the first of our social events for girls with a pizza and bingo event for the year 7s. Thanks to Mrs. and Miss Pollard for organising this. I look forward to other social events with girls which follow after half term. Looking ahead, please do note down 7th November for the Pimlico parents' drinks and I would like to remind all girls that we need hundreds of cakes on Monday to make hundreds of pounds for their chosen charity, Stray Aid. Please could all cakes be nut-free and clearly labelled with ingredients. Thank you to parents for supporting our bake sale and, indeed, for supporting our charity efforts. If you would like to give, then the main webpage is attached below. Thank you. https://www.justgiving.com/page/pimlico-house-25 Have a wonderful weekend. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
