This week in LWE Tutor Time, students across Durham School engaged in an interactive session focused on communication. The theme provided a meaningful opportunity for pupils to reflect on what it means to truly listen to others. A key highlight of the session was exploring the qualities of a good listener, a skill often overlooked in everyday conversations. Students took part in engaging activities where they shared their favourite foods, dream holidays, and other fun facts. Listeners were then put to the test by designated observers, who quizzed them on what they had heard to ensure they were actively listening. As the discussions unfolded, the importance of non-verbal communication also took centre stage. Students learned how body language, eye contact, and facial expressions can support (or hinder) effective communication. These activities not only reinforced valuable life skills but also gave students a wonderful opportunity to learn more about their peers, building empathy and a stronger sense of connection within tutor groups. It was brilliant to see so many students engaged and enjoying the process of both sharing and listening. The session reminded us all that communication is about much more than just talking, it's about being present, showing interest, and creating space for others to be heard. We encourage you to ask your children about what they discovered and perhaps try a quick listening game at home! Congratulations to Our Wellbeing Ambassadors We are also very proud to congratulate Harry W, Nicoleta, and Anna B in Year 13, who have recently completed their 'Mental Health and Bullying' training as part of their ongoing development within our Wellbeing Ambassador Team. Each of them has received a recognised CPD accredited certificate from the Anti-Bullying Alliance charity, a testament to their dedication and commitment to student wellbeing. This training has equipped them with deeper insight into the links between mental health and bullying, ensuring they are well prepared to offer meaningful peer support across the school. Well done to all three. ![]() |
