Pimlico House

I was delighted to see so many euphoric faces from younger year groups earlier this week as they went to and came out of the theatre, even if Thursday was decidedly tainted by post-performance blues. Shrek, being the great success that it was, has definitely made its mark on the Pimlico cast and crew and I'm sure will provide happy memories for a long time yet. Well done to: Charlotte W; Rosalind M; Indigo RB; Poppy N; Freya D; Julie A; Grace V; Romilly M; and Cati A for their immense contributions to this production. Other highlights of the week include Julie A's stirring talk in chapel. In this repeat of her Marsden entry, (an event I sadly couldn't attend), Julie likened the circumstances in which we're born to a lottery. She quite rightly reminded everyone of how arbitrary 'circumstance' appears to be and how, for no obvious reason, some people are born into privilege and others decidedly not. Unexpected events can affect anyone, regardless of social advantage, but Julie's point was that those born into safety, material comfort, educated families and with easy access to vital services have an enormous head-start over those that aren't and that such gaps never really close. The correlation between birth and where we end up in life is indisputable and, she rightly argued, entirely unfair. Eloquent and with a captivating delivery, Julie really got us thinking that morning: Certainly, any grumbles I might have been tempted to allow were firmly put back in their place! Rosalind M also did well this week. Awarded a medal at the Rowing Dinner for 'Most Improved Rower', she couldn't have made us prouder. Rosalind has not long been in the club, but has persevered this year on the river and it has clearly paid off. Well done! Aside from this, the House feels quiet. A number of International pupils have returned home and our year 11s and 13s are elsewhere, enjoying their well-earned, post-exams freedom. A hiatus before the closure of next week, it's a strange time of year. Thank you to all parents and guardians for helping Pimlico to empty its belongings. It makes a big difference knowing that books, folders, hockey sticks and general kit is all with you, rather than here. Thank you too for ensuring girls only arrive during activities week with what they need each day and that this also returns home. I'm looking forward to the last week with the girls, even if -inevitably- it will be tinged with sadness. I hope those who are leaving us for good will make the very best of the next 7 days. Have a lovely weekend. |
