This week our talented musicians performed the Summer Concert in the Chapel. Once again we were grateful to have such a space, not only because it commemorates those ODs who died in two world wars, but also because it stays cool in the heat! The standard of musicianship on display was awe inspiring and the programme ranged from a mesmerising Chamber Choir performance of traditional English songs, conducted by Samantha and delivered from the organ loft, to a rousing (and loud) rendition of 90s classic Live Forever by the Rock Band and sung with gusto by Head Chorister Joshua. We also had performances from Chorister School pupils and a whole range of interesting duets. It was a pleasure to see so much joy being experienced by those making the music and those of us listening to it. The music programme at the Foundation goes from strength to strength. The cricket season continues to benefit from the glorious weather and this week saw a full programme of fixtures against our local rivals and touring sides, including on Thursday the MCC. The Playground was looking its best as we welcomed the custodians of the game and the First XI played very well against tough opposition. The term is drawing to a close but we still have a lot to pack in; Activities Week is almost upon us but for now formal teaching still goes on. These weeks after the Summer half term are a valuable opportunity to get a head start on next year's work as well as consolidating the year that is ending. I commend the pupils for their studious attitude in the face of the distractions of the summer heat. |
