Last week ended on a pleasant note of conviviality as all Pimlico boarders met up with their peers in the boys' houses to enjoy marshmallows around the fire in Poole House garden. The evening was a happy one as we caught up with each other and enjoyed the prospect of a longer weekend. I look forward to more such occasions as the days lengthen and (hopefully) warm up again. The day before Year 11 started study leave, was marked by a formal House photograph. This was to be the last time of being together for quite some time, a significant event, Betty the Border Collie seemed to understand as she sat to attention! During the next few weeks of diminished numbers, we will look to our upcoming monitor team (as yet unknown) to take on the baton of leadership and, indeed, party planning! Amongst other things, they and I will be working on plans to secure an excellent end of year BBQ, usually a highlight of the calendar. I have asked all Year 11 and 13 to put this day and, indeed, sports day, in their diaries so that we can enjoy their company at these events. (Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th July respectively). Pimlico Events In the nearer future, we look forward to the Girls' Sports dinner. This will take place on Friday 6th June at 18.30-23.30. The event is held at: Radisson Blu, Frankland Ln, Durham DH1 5TA and tickets can be purchased here: Book Tickets Here Please be sure to get your tickets soon as, it promises to be a popular event. The deadline for this is Friday 23rd May. Dress: Semi-Formal; Cost: £32.50. The School will also be collecting in raffle prizes to raise money for girls' sport. Thank you for asking your daughter to bring donations to Mrs Myers-Bruin in MacLeod by Friday 23rd May. Remembering VE Day Finally, as I look back on the week, the 8th May is certainly a day that stands out. Not only a time to honour soldiers, leaders and civilians who fought, sacrificed and persevered during the 2nd World War, VE day also acts as an increasingly needed reminder of the importance of peace, freedom and international harmony. In my conversations with some of the older girls in Pimlico, I see that this awareness is certainly there. Political enlightenment, an interest in global affairs and a passion for History happily isn't lacking in these corridors and, although we can never be complacent, I am comforted by this. We may yet be able to learn from the past. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
