From the Principal
Friday, 2 May 2025

It was a busy Easter holiday that came after a long term and the range of activities that took place illustrate what makes the Foundation so special. There were cricketers acquitting themselves well in Sri Lanka, rowers training in Rotterdam and Choristers working (very) hard during holy week, the highlight of which was the visit of the King and Queen on Maundy Thursday; Durham City put out the bunting and our pupils were fantastic ambassadors for their schools. And while all of this was going on our Year 11 and Year 13 pupil were at home working intensely for their (now very) imminent exams.

The Summer term has started in a blaze of sunshine and a flurry of activity. Already this week we have had the Junior Maths Challenge involving Year 7 and 8, a robotics and AI workshop for Girls in STEM and a good win for the Second XI against RGS Newcastle. The week finishes with the annual Rugby Club dinner and I look forward to hearing the reports of successful seasons at every age group; it is always an inspiring evening.

So my first few weeks as Interim Principal have been as busy as possible, and the term continues in the same vein. I encourage you to book tickets for Shrek: The Musical which takes place in the Luce Theatre in June and the Friends of DSCF Ball at the end of term. Before that Durham School Speech Day is on Friday 23rd May in the Cathedral and I look forward to seeing many of you there to celebrate the many and varied achievements of our amazing pupils.
