Welcome back to school and the start of the Summer term. The bright mornings and evenings, freshly mown grass and blossom on the trees are a welcome sight and it has been lovely to see the children enjoying their break times in the sunshine. Firstly, my thanks go to the Choristers, Mrs Faulkner-Walford and the Barrington House team for their significant contributions to Holy Week in the Cathedral. They participated in a number of services which were very much appreciated by the wider Durham community. The Maundy Thursday service, in the presence of King Charles and Queen Camilla was a most memorable occasion for all involved. Euan and Nishq, selected as Almonry children, represented DCSF impeccably and were a credit to Chorister School and their families. In the classroom, new topics are underway and everyone has returned with an enthusiastic appetite for learning. Beyond the classroom, enrichment activities have enhanced learning with Year 5 enjoying a history workshop with a Roman Centurion and EYFS enjoying a glorious day at Gibside. Thank you very much to Mr Siddall who visited school on Tuesday to talk to the Year 6 children about his work as an architect and demonstrated a thermographic camera. Many thanks to those who supported our Online Safety presentation on Tuesday evening. Ms Thompson and Mrs Balfour shared very helpful information and guidance. The presentation is on our SharePoint if you were unable to attend. Finally, this week we welcomed a number of new pupils into our school family and also our new school pet, a Hermann's tortoise. Mr Campbell has shared the background to our latest addition in his report in our weekly newsletter. A very warm welcome to all! Best wishes for the Bank Holiday weekend. |
