The week has been a true showcase of the many interests and talents in Pimlico House. Marsden Public Speaking Competition Starting with The Marsden Public Speaking competition, Julie A, Francesca W and Lola HT are to be congratulated on making it through to the finals. Julie spoke passionately and movingly about 'The Luck of Birth', detailing the sad truth that circumstances of birth play a key role in one's good fortune or otherwise. She cleverly equated this to the lottery. Francesca's insight into the issues surrounding 'Domestic Abuse' were mature and informed and she explored the question of ending suffering with real competence. Lola spoke bravely from her own experience of the much-misunderstood condition O.C.D. Her convincing and emotive speech left the audience far more informed about and alert to the potential trivialisation of the condition. All three girls conducted themselves with poise and maturity, displaying interest also in the speeches given by the Seniors. I hope this inspires them to continue taking part in future years. Pimlico Sport Moving on to Sport, I commend all girls who ran with grit, determination and – in many cases – a healthy sense of humour in Monday's Dunelm run. Sporting the new Pimlico hoodies, the girls looked and acted like true sports' women, and I was delighted with their effort. Well done especially to Sophie S, for coming second in the senior section and Anna A, for her triumphant first place in the junior section. These are no small achievements. Anna continues to impress us with her sporting prowess outside of school too. Last weekend she took part in the national pony club triathlon championships achieving a Personal Best in all 3 disciplines (shooting/running/swimming) and coming 17th in the country. She is also the first girl in northern England to achieve this. This is immense and we are very proud of her! As we end the season of winter sports, it's lovely to see girls trying their hand at cricket once again, or in some cases for the first time. Clemmie, although still a novice, certainly appears very at ease in all her kit (see photo). I hope she and all junior girls take to the scene as have many of their older counterparts. Other News Finally, on a slightly different note, Pimlico (and other) boarders were treated to a little party on Monday night to mark the end of Eid. With tasty treats, twinkly lights, music and even a bit of belly dancing, the evening heralded the end of a challenging period of fasting for Clara MA and, for everyone, the almost end of a challenging term. It was a delight to welcome Father Simon into our midst and my thanks go to him, Lucy G and Mrs. Rochester for putting the evening together. As we head off now to three weeks of recuperation, I wish all those with exams a productive time and everyone a happy holiday. See you in three weeks! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
