The Caffinites

There hasn't been a day this week without some form of House competition, and as a result, there are plenty of boys out there with tired legs. However, I am sure that three weeks of relaxation will ensure they return refreshed and ready for the final term.

Dunelm Cross Country

The first House competition took place on Monday and was arguably the biggest in terms of participation. All the pupils made their way to The Playground, stretched, prepared, and motivated themselves for the race ahead. Conditions were favourable, and the footwear of choice was definitely football boots or spikes. As I write, the final collective results are not yet available, but there were some outstanding individual performances from the House. Ajinth A (Year 8) claimed first place, with James W (Year 8) securing third in the junior competition. Meanwhile, Charlie C (Year 12), Harry G (Year 11), and George SB (Year 11) completed a clean sweep of the podium for the Dunelm Run.

New for this year, each House was tasked with a 7 x 700m relay race around the school grounds. Congratulations to Harry F, Ajinth S, Jack H, Sammy W, Harry G, Charlie C, and Zack H for securing victory for The Caffinites House in the event. In addition, a massive congratulations to all the boys who took part in the race - at the end of the day, this event is a team effort!

Caffinites Sport

Rugby

Wednesday was a special day as the Housemasters had the privilege of taking a day out of school to watch the 1st XV take on Edinburgh Academy in what is recognised as the oldest rugby fixture in history. It was a memorable experience, made even more significant as it marked the final time many of Caffinite's Year 13 players would wear the green and white jersey. For them, it was an emotional occasion, knowing they were representing the school one last time on the pitch. The team delivered a dominant and impressive performance, securing a well-earned 40-20 victory. The level of determination and teamwork on display was outstanding, making it a fitting way for the seniors to bow out. As a Senior Housemaster, I rarely have the opportunity to watch the boys play at an away fixture, so it was a proud moment to be there and celebrate their success. A particular highlight was getting a photo with all the Year 12 and 13 players - an unforgettable moment, and one where, for once, I felt small! A massive pat on the back to the pupils for their commitment and exceptional performances over the past 2-3 years.

Judo

Harry and Cuthbert W (Year 9) competed at the Junior European Judo Championships today in Antwerp, Belgium last weekend, showcasing their talent on the international stage. Both boys put in outstanding performances in incredibly tough categories, each facing a field of 25 top fighters from across Europe. Despite the fierce competition, they rose to the challenge and secured well-earned bronze medals for England - Harry in the U42kg category and Cuthbert in the U38kg category. This achievement is a testament to their dedication and skill, and it should serve them well as they prepare to represent Great Britain in Lithuania next weekend. Best of luck!

Hockey

On Thursday, the Senior House Hockey competition proved to be a another fantastic achievement, showcasing teamwork and determination of our players. The tournament featured matches against both the boys' and girls' houses, each bringing their own strengths and competitive spirit to the pitch. With strong performances across the Caffs team, sharp finishing in front of goal, we secured key victories that saw us crowned overall winners! It was a brilliant effort from every player involved.

Marsden Public Speaking Competition

Away from sport, Ethan B (Year 12) took part in the Marsden Public Speaking Final this week. The competition saw fierce debate and compelling speeches, with participants showcasing their research skills and persuasive delivery. A special congratulations goes to Ethan with his speech on immortality, impressing both judges and peers alike.

Looking ahead to the start of next term, please note that this starts on Monday 28th April at 8.25am. Please could I ask that uniform is all in order for the start of the new term. In addition to this, could I also ask that hairstyles are in line with the school rules – mullets, side fades and tram lines are not permitted.

With best wishes from the Caffinites House team.
