Bungites
Friday, 28 March 2025

Welcome once again to this week's Bungites Friday Flyer. It has been a slightly odd week in the house with many of the boys absent due to representing the School around the country. That is not to say the house has been any less quiet and it is certainly the case that those who have been in school have more than managed to keep us busy!!

Bungites Sport

Roslyn Park

Three teams have made the trip to Roslyn Park for the National 7s with each team representing the Rugby Club with pride. Our U18s did extremely well to get out of a very difficult group and were incredibly unlucky in their first knockout game. As always, good representation from Bungites with Will M, Dan C & Jackson M playing their part. Our U14s were next up and found themselves in a very tough group. The boys were committed to the challenge but came up short against some very strong sides. Our U16s were last up and sailed through their group with some superb 7s. The game we watched online was a come back win with Spencer S, Louie M and Dan C catching the eye.

The boys then won their knockout game before a very tough group of fixtures got the better of them. Huge well done to all the players and a massive thank you to the parents and coaches who travelled with the boys.

Hockey

U13 Regional Final

The U13 boys' hockey team who qualified for the Regional finals travelled to Leeds last Friday to fight for a place at the National Finals. It was a great day of hockey with several Bungite boys involved. The boys came 4th overall which was a great result for a team developing their hockey. Welldone to Jesse E, Robbie S, Hongyi L, Max H and Arthur T.

U13 A vs RGS

The team travelled to RGS for a Triangular fixture. The boys played incredibly well with Jesse E making some incredible saves and Robbie S showing great leadership . The boys lost the first game 2-1 and won the second game 3-0. A great set of results against strong opposition.

U13 B / U12 A / U12 B vs Barnard Castle

Over 40 boys travelled to Barnard Castle to play in a set of fixtures, U13 B won 2-0, U12 A lost 2-1 and U 12 B lost 2-0, some notable performances from several Bungites including Indy R, Martin B and Miles F.

Rowing

Ponteland Junior Head

Great way to end the domestic head race season at Ponteland Junior Head! Rowers from yr9 to yr13 raced all contributing to School winning the Victor Ludorum for best performing club on the day and we also took fastest boat of the day. Outstanding effort from pupils and coaches, with plenty of support from the banks. Special mention to Jason W who won all three races at the weekend!

Schools Head of the River

Durham School have not sent a boat to SHORR for over 4 years. It was great to send a boat again this year for the boys to experience racing on the tideway and the famous Oxford / Cambridge boat racecourse. Well done to the four Bungite boys involved, Matty W, Ed D, Toni G and Alexander P-L.

Dunelm Run

The Dunelm Runs are happening on Monday and all boys need School sports kit to change into. The timings are below:

Removes Run (Yr 7&8):       2.00pm Start

Swainston Run (Yr 9 & 10):    2.30pm Start

Dunelm Run (Yr 11,12 &13):    3.00pm Start

Vallance Relays:                     3.40pm Start

This is a competition we have won for quite a few years in a row and that is because the boys 'front up' and do their best. Please do not accept half cooked excuses as to why they can't run! It is a much shortened track, with only one hill, which they can all manage (unless on crutches, obviously!).

Bungites Music

Yunhao X, Jesse E, Charlie R, Simon C, Jesse E, Xavier J, Jack C, Robbie S and Theo M were involved in the Spring Concert on Wednesday Evening and my congratulations goes to them all for what was a wonderful evening.

Bungites Academics

Academic Lauds this week have been given to:

Ethan B, Alex C, Jesse E, Lucas F, Will G, Max H, Mustafa H, Rory J , Ben R , Indy R, Louie W, Matthew W

Massive congratulations to all of the boys above.

Boarding

Axe throwing is this weekend's activity so good luck to whoever is taking the boarders for that!! We will also be packing up rooms and making sure all belongings are stored safely.

House Keeping

Looking ahead to next week, the House will close at 4:30pm for all pupils following Cathedral. In reality, we will be back around 3:50pm at which time the boys are free to leave. The school buses are leaving at 4:30pm.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who came along to Parents' Drinks last Friday. It was lovely to catch up with so many of you and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

I wish you all a restful and enjoyable weekend.
