Pimlico House
Friday, 21 March 2025

If there's any lesson that can be drawn from Pimlico girls' assembly on Wednesday, it seems to be that we can be remarkable in the unremarkable. Joseph, (Father of Jesus - not of technicolour dream coat renown), may not have had the most exciting profile of any of the big Bible figures, but, in their interview with Father Simon, girls pointed out that he demonstrated the following: "The importance of being brave when life sends its challenges, of doing the right thing when it's very tempting not to and of taking pride in one's work". Perhaps it's easy to forget that these were then and still are remarkable virtues. Thank you to: Tabitha A; Aroa L; Gwen U; Romilly M; Hannah R and Bel C for their confident delivery of this message.

Chadeyron Music Competition

Certainly, there was pride in achievement when it came to the Chaderyon competition this week. By all accounts (and I have heard a number), the standard was very high. It's wonderful to see that so many of our girls took part and all should be commended for their effort, but a particular congratulations are extended to: Josephine M; Bethany Ng; Julie A and Clemmie W for receiving Highly Commended in their respective sections and, of course to: Yichenxi Xue for winning the Intermediate Piano section and Clemmie W for winning the Robin Myerscough Singing Competition.

I continue to be very proud of all the fantastic musicians in this House!

Food and Fun

No week would be a proper DCSF week without its share of food and fun. International Dinner last Friday provided exactly that and, as we munched through the generous portions of pork belly, noodles and other scrumptious dishes, we were also tasked with some highly complicated Maths problems and anagrams of world cities. Happily, for me, these more cerebral forms of entertainment quickly evolved into the more rhythmic which meant I could abandon the Maths and listen to Anna perform some of her DJ-ing hits. Nico was next and had us all swirling to traditional Moldovan folk music - a dizzying antidote to a hearty dinner!

Since Origami was also a feature of the dinner, it was lovely to learn how to make these intricate shapes the next evening in an Origami lesson, led by May F. Thanks to her very patient guidance, Pimlico boarders created some rather impressive butterflies, bows and even the odd bird, although we have to admit that May still takes a large part of the credit.

More fun, games and even food are on the horizon for next week when years 12 and 13 meet together for their combined social event. The evening even promises teams and prizes. I wonder what Lucy G has in store for us? For my part, I just hope it's not more Maths. Please!
