Last Friday we welcomed in Erin from St Cuthbert's Hospice who talked to the girls about the valuable work they do for our community. In the last few weeks until Easter we will continue our fundraising as we try to reach a total of £2000. With a few events in the pipeline, including an Easter Treasure Hunt, I'm sure we will do it. Lodge Netball This week has seen most of the girls playing House netball. As a small House the girls are often challenged to do House competitions in sports they have either never played or haven't played for several years. This was certainly the case on Tuesday for the Year 9s and 10s. With only 7 girls available to play and 7 on a team they fought valiantly with half the team having little to no experience of the game. They came away with an overall 3rd place finish. The Year 7s and 8s took to the court on Wednesday, some wearing the newly available House tops and looking very smart. Several of our girls play netball and the skills on show were evidence of their ability. In an extremely close contest, they finished 2nd overall. Well done to everyone who took part. The seniors face off in a couple of weeks' time. Pygmalion This week also saw the School Production take centre stage, Pygmalion. The cast and crew have been working hard over the last 5 months to shape, create and stage a unique production which was full to the brim with talent, energy and social class divide! The show was partly adapted by Mrs Brownlee who also directed the show, giving the traditional work of George Bernard Shaw a reflective twist, incorporating opinionated narrators and additional stylised scenes. A number of Lodge House girls were involved in the production and with a full-cast rehearsal last Sunday, dress rehearsal on Monday evening, and 3 evening shows, it is safe to say they were a little wilted this morning! A massive well done to Alexandra B, Natalie V, Lilly M, Grace S, Amy G, Freya M, Rosie M, Alyssa D, Calli F and Lucy C for being involved in various roles and positions, helping to produce a very well-polished and professional show. Other News The school hosted Sedbergh for a swimming gala on Wednesday and again, a lot of the Lodge girls were selected to take part, several in addition to the Pygmalion shows. While DCSF did not win our girls did us proud, with the U15 team of Lucy C, Calli F, Charlotte J and Sam J (Macleod) winning their category. Cookery club this week was a little quieter as we did "Everything Egg" but those that came learned how to make boiled, poached, fried, scrambled, omelette and eggy bread! Some life skills that will come in handy when they head off for university! The next one will be on 26th March, we will be making cookies. The girls have been told they need to sign up and bring in £3 to cover the ingredients by the end of next week. By the time you read this, after an extremely busy week, we will have enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies during House time. Sometimes looking after yourself and relaxing is just as important as being busy and working hard. The whole House deserve the treat. Lady of Lodge This week's Lady of Lodge goes to Isobel and Anna in Year 8. They were both selected for the U13 swimming team for the first time and Mrs Fordyce was really pleased with how they performed on the day. Well done girls.
