Welcome to this week's round up of all things Bungites and I hope everyone has enjoyed the near tropical weather this week. Indeed, the boys have seized the opportunity to roll around in and run through the beautiful dry fields so the house has smelt like a fresh summers day for most of the week. You won't find any caked mud on our carpets, days old kit in our lockers or steaming boot bags in any of our studies, your sons simply would not tolerate such messiness… Bungites Academics Year 13 have been given their mock results and I would say that results are pretty much as I expected. The boys who have done well worked hard to achieve their success which is a very simple philosophy others need to adopt! Time is very much of the essence in terms of filling knowledge gaps and revising specification topics so I urge all of our exam groups to use their time efficiently. French speaking exams are not too far away and once these start it feels like all of the other exams are upon is at break neck speed. Our junior pupils still have their end of year exams to sit and our in school preparations for these tests will be starting very soon. Things like revision lists and such like will start appearing soon. Bungites Drama For those of you who watched Pygmalion this week I am sure you will agree it was another superb production from our very talented (and extremely hard working) drama department. Alex P-L, Andrew C and Zac H all contributed to what was a very impressive show. On behalf of us all, I thank the whole cast, crew and production team for their hard work (and Mrs Brownlee for her seemingly unbreakable patience!). We are already looking forward to the junior performance! Bungites Sport Rugby Rugby dominates the sports news this week with little else happening away from the aforementioned sports fields. Our U18s had the standout performance of the week winning the County 7s down at Durham City. The boys were at full strength and played some superb rugby. With a busy schedule ahead, I am sure the boys will be keen to test themselves. Special shout out to our Head of House Will M who made his return to competitive rugby after a season out. Our U12s had a tough day at the office down at St Peter's York having been drawn in a ridiculously tough group. U16s had a warm up mini tournament this week wining all their games. Rowan B telling me he was head and shoulders above everyone else. U14s came second in the County 7s with Archie M maintaining his impressive form. Hockey Our U13s are down at Maiden Castle today for a hockey tournament and I hope all goes well. OD News Sam G, OD, has been called up to the England U19 squad for this weekends game against Japan and we wish him well. Bungites Rowing After a successful weekend training the U16 rowers head to Cambois this weekend for the Northern Team Trials, good luck to those who are competing. From a personal perspective, and kind of sports related, I can see the huge piles magical cricket outfield producing seed from Private Side which tells me that great weather, long summer nights and lots of cricket is on the horizon! The turnaround from what the playground looks like now to what it will look like in a month or so's time is quite incredible. Bungites Academic Academic awards this week go to: Hayden W, Adam A , Dan C, Louie M, Alex C, Harry D, Oliver OSB, Evan M, Musatfa H, Max H, James H, Jesse E, Lewis S, Seb C, Owen C, Martin B, Rowan B, Sam F. Kayode. Huge congratulations to all of the boys listed above. Open Day Thank you so much to all of you who brought the boys in to school for Open Day. The morning was a great success and your boys were fantastic ambassadors for our school. Boarding The boys and I made homemade burgers last Saturday in what proved to be a very messy venture! The food, however, was top notch and it was a really fun evening. This weekend, we may well delve back into the world of gourmet burger production though a la carte fajitas have also been mooted. I will keep you posted. On Sunday, the boys were rock climbing which is always great fun and a good time was had by all. Tonight we have an international dinner to look forward to and a chance to get the boarding community together. Flexi Boarding It is great to have a solid group of Flexi boarders staying with us on an ad hoc basis and please let me know if you would like to know more about boarding. Your boys will join the boarding community for an evening and have a great time. There is, arguably, no better place for the boys to be should you feel like a mid-term break (wouldn't say holiday, but that is exactly what I mean!) or such like is needed- they are looked after by us, fed, do their homework and can be at school in less than 30 seconds! The ease of arranging the boarding is very straight forward- a quick email to me and I will book them in! We have bedding etc so all they need is their overnight bag. Housekeeping We have had issues with junior lockers this week that I am still a little puzzled by. The reason being, if the lockers are used correctly (ie the lockers kept locked) then we shouldn't, in theory, have any problems and, of course, the boys are adamant this is the case. As was made clear to the boys when they were issued the locker, they are to be looked after and any damaged locks will carry a £5 charge. Parents' Drinks Really looking forward to next Friday and do please let me know if you would like to attend and have yet to RSVP. As I mentioned last week, it is looking like it will be a great night. I wish you all an enjoyable weekend. |
