Science Week This week marked the celebration of Science Week, which brought an exciting opportunity for students to explore various scientific concepts. Throughout the week, students participated in a variety of activities designed to stimulate curiosity and foster hands-on learning. These activities included experiments, live demonstrations, and insightful talks from guest speakers, among others. Science Week not only allowed students to expand their scientific knowledge but also helped enhance their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, encouraging them to apply what they had learned in practical and meaningful ways. On Tuesday, our Year 7 pupils explored the wonders of science at the Hancock Museum in Newcastle. They had the chance to visit the planetarium, where they marvelled at the stars and planets, and explored a range of historic animal artifacts. The students also participated in an engaging workshop on ancient woodlands, gaining hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the natural world. On Wednesday, our Year 12 students presented their impressive research projects to our school community. I had the privilege of listening to some truly inspiring presentations and practical experiments. As always, this event highlighted the hard work and dedication of our Year 12 scientists. Caffinites Sport In sports news, our first team had a remarkable performance, winning the County Championship 7s tournament on Wednesday. Congratulations to P. Hogg, J. McBurnie, A. Edwards, B. Renwick, and B. Hutchinson for their outstanding contributions to the team's success. In swimming news, our school team swam against Sedbergh in a challenging swimming gala on Wednesday afternoon. Although we unfortunately lost, it was a closely contested event, and our swimmers showed great determination and sportsmanship. Pygmalion Additionally, the Drama performance, Pygmalion, was a great success this week. The students have been working diligently on rehearsals over the last few months, and the performance exceeded all expectations. Well done to everyone who was involved. House Keeping Looking ahead to the end of term, could I please remind parents to check at home for any misplaced uniform or games kit? Over the past week, there have been a couple of instances where items of clothing have been mistakenly picked up. I would be very grateful if you could check your child's sports bag for any additional items. In addition to this, could I please ask that all uniform is in order. I must stress that the school rules state students must wear black shoes. Black trainers are not an acceptable form of footwear with our school uniform. Also, I would like to remind all Sixth Form students that they must wear their full school uniform on a daily basis. The excuse of wearing DCSF games kit is not a valid reason for not being in uniform, especially when it is not a Games period. Your support with this is greatly appreciated. Finally, with three weeks left of this term, there will be a Cathedral service at 3pm on the Friday afternoon of the last week of term. Please note that the House will close at 4:30pm on Friday 4th April, and school buses will depart at this time. Please could I ask parents and guardians to encourage pupils to empty their belongings from studies and lockers. The House is being used over the Easter holidays and all areas of the House need to be emptied and cleaned. As always, thank you for your continued support Have a great weekend, Mr A. McMillan |
