As an avid reader and someone who likes to tell stories, this is my favourite week of the academic year. I take such pleasure in sharing favourite books and authors of tales that make people think and can learn something from. I was impressed by the array of costumes that adorned the boys in the House, though the most inventive was by the boy who won the 'Best in School Award' Joshua H in Year 8. His version of Dorian Gray not only looked absolutely amazing, but also had with it three images of himself as he aged- true to the narrative. For me, seeing him in tutor time, explain who the character was and what we learn from him was inspiring and a true representation of why we should read. Once again, Ajay E in Year 12 has been called up for the England Development Camp this week as he continues his quest to follow in the footsteps of other boys in The Caffinites and represent his country. Mr Powell has commented on his impressive work in training and I would also add that he isn't just a gifted rugby player, studying A-level English isn't the easiest of tasks and has really put a great deal of effort in this week on all fronts. The current Upper 6th have completed their exams this week and I have heard that all of the boys have gained valuable experience as they will have a great deal more confidence going into exam season after Easter. Our Deputy Head of House shared with me the length of one of his Drama assessments and it was a marathon 3 hours 45 minutes- I'm glad to say he managed it and actually said he enjoyed it too. ![]() |
