National Careers Week 2025

As part of National Careers Week, we have been celebrating all things career-related at Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation. During tutor time, students have engaged in thoughtful discussions about their future aspirations and the steps they can take to reach their goals. This reflective process has provided them with the opportunity to assess the skills and attributes they currently possess and identify areas for personal development. Our aim has been to empower students with the understanding that career success is a journey, one that can be shaped by clear goals and purposeful actions.

In addition to the tutor time activities, this week's Wellness Wednesday session has also tied into the themes of National Careers Week. We focused on the importance of having goals and a sense of direction, both of which contribute significantly to our overall wellbeing. By having a clear purpose, students can develop a sense of motivation and fulfilment, which in turn supports their mental and emotional health. We have encouraged our students to recognise how setting personal and professional goals can enhance their sense of self-worth and help them maintain focus.

Throughout the week, students have explored the small, incremental steps they can take towards achieving their dreams, whether that involves further developing existing skills or learning new ones. By breaking down larger aspirations into manageable tasks, students are gaining a better understanding of how to plan for their future while also celebrating their current achievements. This approach has allowed us to foster a growth mindset, where students feel empowered to take control of their paths and understand that progress is made through consistent effort and perseverance.

At Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation, we believe that setting goals is not only about career progression but also about fostering a positive mindset that supports overall wellbeing. By integrating career planning with wellness discussions, we hope to encourage students to see the interconnectedness of their personal and professional lives. As we continue to navigate the journey of education together, we remain committed to helping students explore their passions, develop key skills, and build a foundation for a fulfilling and successful future.
