School House
Friday, 13 December 2024

I want to begin the final Friday Flyer of 2024 by saying a massive thank you to all for your support of the house this year. Of course, School House is the place it is because of the boys, but underpinning that is the amazing support they receive from you. It has been a brilliant year, with so many highpoints, and I feel incredibly fortunate to spend so much time with your boys. They are an absolute credit to you and fantastic Dunelmians. We have so much to look forward to and I am excited to see what they can all achieve. As well as the joys of everything this week we are also sad to say goodbye to 2 of our boys as they head off to pastures new. We say goodbye to Louis W and Charlie H and I will miss both boys greatly.

Sport – House Rugby

Fantastic news!!!!

3 wins from 3 in Junior House Rugby this week in what was a brilliant couple of days for the house. The boys played hard, worked for each other and did themselves proud. The teams were captained by, Louie W, James H, Simon G and Tom R. All of the juniors played their part, and it was an absolute pleasure to watch. Such events show what the boys are all about and what we are trying to create- teamwork, strong bonds and determination to always do their best.

House Suppers

Junior

Wednesday afternoon was House Suppers and Mr Bryant organised a fun filled (and loud!!) afternoon for the boys. After presentations and a meal, the boys slaughtered some of the world's best-known songs though no one can question that they had fun! The boys, as always, were brilliant company and on top form. The standard of singing was of course varied with Jack C blowing everyone away with a quite brilliant performance. Eventual winners, Year 10, took home the coveted Car Crash Karaoke Trophy.

Senior

Last night it was the turn of the seniors and they did not disappoint. The boys looked superb in their dinner suits and I thank them all for making such an impressive effort. The evening started with welcome drinks and speeches followed by a meal then House Entertainments. For me, I get the chance to remind the boys of all they have achieved and the unbelievable amount they achieve throughout the year. So many highlights and lots of fantastic moments to reflect on. The meal was lovely then it was time for entertainments. First up we had a boat club v rugby club blind date. Some very questionable answers but we stayed true to the original format. Next up we took Year 11 through some lessons in love and I hope they can bare in mind what they were taught as they get older. Year 12 held a quiz with 'Bush tucker trials' for the losers of each round-horrific! We were then treated to the Year 13 Nativity which, following some quite appalling rehearsals, came together beautifully.

House Colours

Just so that you know, House Colours are awarded based on the amount that the boys do for the house. I have a spreadsheet with all of their names on and they awarded up to 3 points a year for a variety of activities (ranging from doing house tours to speaking in chapel). A total is then kept and once the threshold is hit, colours are awarded.

All of the boys awarded House Colours should be very proud of themselves and I hope seeing the ties inspires others to get themselves involved and represent the house. Every single one of them can 'earn their stripes' and it will always be one of the proudest parts of my job giving the boys their ties.

This term we awarded Half House colours to- Emile B, Archie S, George B, Tom M, Jackson M, Yunhao X, Dan C with Full House colours going to Lucas H, Thomas H, Ed D and Mr Brownlee.
