Despite the cold and grim conditions the boys have been busy and I am pleased to say have now learnt that mud, the house carpets and my patience do not compliment each other. They do, however, seem to have forgotten that kit left outside in the rain gets wet so sadly the odour of drying mud is still one we are blessed with near almost every radiator!

Academic

It was great to see so many year 10 parents on Tuesday night and it seemed a really positive night for everyone. Our Year 10 are, at the time of writing, locked into their best behaviour as I have said that if they all keep their study tidy I will get them so new furniture (to that end, should you have anything you would like to donate, we offer a free collection service). Boys in years 9, 11 and 13 have full reports this term with the other year groups receiving grade reports. Please let your sons tutor know should you not receive them at the end of term. Year 11 have also been given their mock timetables for after Christmas and are attending a revision session today. It is quite often the period after mocks (leading up to exams) when an extra gear is found. Year 13 will have their mocks after February half term.

Sport

Our U15 XV were disappointed with their performance in their defeat to Ripon Grammar on Tuesday afternoon. Perhaps it was the worry of Parents' Evening that distracted the mind! Our U14 XV enjoyed a better afternoon against the same school with four tries from Arhie M helping the team to a comfortable victory. Our U16 XV won a heated game against Durham Johnston on the Hawks Nest. Louie M played well making some excellent breaks and strong tackles though it was a good display all round (once the boys started playing with their heads!). The 1st XV were gutted to lose their last home game of the season to Scarburgh College on Wednesday. The boys never really got going and made countless uncharacteristic errorss and desciions. It was the last game on the playground for Jackson M and George F who have given so much to the rugby club and they can be proud of how well they have represented the school.

Our Rowers are competing in Rutherford Head this weekend and we wish them well for looks like a great day's racing.

Meet the Bungite Will M, Head of House

Favourite Subject - DT, every time, superb course. I find I can really engage with the subject and the teachers enable me to fulfil my vision on my projects.

Favourite thing about School House - I can be myself; everyone is treated with respect whatever their interests. The support the staff give me really helps me tackle the pressures of growing up.

Best thing about being a Bungnite? I really like the ethos in the house and how we embrace the House Competitions, it really is a house family.

Aspirations? I would like to continue playing rugby for as long as I can, then eventually become an architect!

Advice you would give your younger self? "Always think through what the consequences may be of your own actions" Some things you do can have an impact on your life for a long time!

Any advice for the new year 7's as head of house? " Honesty is the best policy". We all make mistakes, just own up to them! Mr Younger and Mr Bryant will always find out eventually!

Boarding

It's been a busy week for our lads with trips to the cinema, ice skating, York and the Cathedral all on the itinerary. We also enjoyed a Thanksgiving dinner last night which was brilliant. I cannot believe we need to start thinking about the end of term already but here we are, please could parents/Guardians let me know travel arrangements asap so that I can ensure the boys a ready to travel.

End of Term

Plans for the end of term are being finalised so please keep an eye on your inboxes. Junior House Suppers will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday the 11th December (12:45-4:20) with Seniors the Evening of the 12th December (4:20-10:00). On the 12th, we expect all boys in years 7-10 to be collected at 4:20pm (those getting the School bus will have supervised prep until 5:30)). Senior suppers will be a Black Tie evening while the juniors are encouraged to wear Christmas Jumpers. The House will close on Friday 14th December at 6:45pm.

As I mentioned above, should anyone have any sofas/chairs they would like to donate please let me know!
