Lodge House
Saturday, 30 November 2024

As we very quickly approach the end of term, it is clear that both energy levels and immune systems are being tested. With a number of sniffles and coughs lingering around the house, it has been a fast but tough week for everyone, and I once again wish the girls, and staff, a restful weekend.

I started the week congratulating the girls on the vast number of activities and challenges that they had taken part in over the weekend. From Scout expeditions in the snow, to Horse Riding events and Dance Shows, it is lovely to hear about these activities – please do keep us informed of anything the girls are getting involved in outside school.

On Tuesday, a selection of girls took part in the District Cross-Country competition and although only some came back victorious, they all came back tired but pleased with their efforts – well done. Cross County will be part of their PE and Games programme, and it is not only tests fitness but certainly resilience and determination too.

Wednesday saw the Year 8 and 9 Social evening where the girls created Christmas crafts and drank hot chocolate! They were challenged by our house Craft Master Mrs Fordyce, to make wool Gonks and Christmas earrings – check out the Instagram to see some examples! It was a lovely evening, spending time with the tutor group and seeing their crafty creations!

This weekend is another busy one with sport fixtures and activities outside school. However, this is one event which I must mention in a little more detail. On Saturday 30 November & Sunday 1 December at 6pm there is an Advent Procession in Durham Cathedral which marks the start of Advent. The Choristers are naturally taking centre stage in the service, and I am so proud to announce that Alexa (Yr 7) and Penelope (Yr 8) are performing a solo during the service. The description for the service sounds enchanting so if you are able to attend and support, please do:

'Starting in darkness, the choir begins to sing at the west end of the cathedral and, as they move slowly through the building, the light grows as they go. See the cathedral in a different way with shimmering robes, incense smoke, choral music alongside Advent readings preparing us for Christmas.'

Well done, girls.

Lady of Lodge

This week's Lady of Lodge has to, without a doubt, go to Eloise (Yr 7) who has had a very busy few weeks! A couple of weeks ago, Eloise was the ball carrier for an international Netball match between England and Jamacia which was televised – well done, a very important responsibility that I can imagine Eloise also took part in a Scout hiking expedition over the weekend, tackling not only a very heavy backpack but also the snowy weather. She then came into school this week and took part in the District Cross Country and came 12th place meaning she proceeds to the next round. A fantastic week, Eloise, well done!
