The highlight of the week of course was House Music in the Cathedral. It was great to be able to host the event externally for the first time in a number of years. The pupils did not fail to rise to the occasion, and standard of all of the performance on the night was incredibly high. Congratulations to all of the performers and particular to MacLeod who finished as worthy winners.

As I said on the night, experiences like these – performing in front of an audience, in an amazing venue such as the Cathedral - stay with the pupils for the rest of their lives. I had confirmation of this last night, when I travelled down to London to meet ODs for drinks in the city. It was great to see so many former pupils, of a wide variety of ages, and they were keen to hear the result of the competition as well as catch up on other news about the school.

The strength of community we have at Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation is a huge testament to the pupils who attend it, the staff who work at it and of course parents, ODs and friends who support it. That community spirit was in evidence in those events this week, and also at the Langley Day celebration on Wednesday evening.

Bishop Thomas Langley founded two schools, one for grammar and one for song, in the early 15th century and our evolution from those institutions to the Foundation we have today was in all of our minds at the service.  Many thanks to all of the pupils who took part.
