The Caffinites

This week, we were treated to an incredible House Music event held in the beautiful setting of Durham Cathedral on Monday. The boys showcased their musical talents through part-song singing, including an excellent rendition of Purple Rain. The event concluded with the full house uniting in an excellent performance of Let It Snow — a fitting choice as we prepare for some snowy weather forecast ahead!

A huge congratulations to all the boys who participated; their hard work and dedication were evident throughout. A special mention goes to Z. Hills (Head of House) for his outstanding effort in organising the unison song and D. Enguita (Year 10) for his leadership in coordinating the part songs. Their commitment and enthusiasm were instrumental in the event's success.

It is certainly fitting to leave you with some photos that were taken during the event.

Unfortunately, the 1st team fixture against Barnard Castle at Mowden Park has been cancelled this evening due to a frozen pitch. I look forward to the rescheduled game in due course.

With only three weeks left of this term, please find some important dates for your calendar below:

Dates for your calendar: Due to staff and pupil commitments, our Year 7 Burger and Film night will now take place on Tuesday 3rd December. Mrs. Gordon, Mr. Thompson, and I are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to spend quality time with the Year 7 boys. The evening will start at 4:30pm and conclude at 6:15pm I kindly ask that the boys come dressed in comfortable clothing. Additionally, if they wish to bring along any sweets or popcorn, please feel free to do so; we encourage a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

On Wednesday 11th December, the junior year groups (Years 7 – 10) will have their Christmas lunch followed by presentations and activities in the House. Once again, this will take place during the school today so normal pick time will apply.

On Thursday 12th December, the senior year groups (Years 11 – 13) will have their House suppers. The evening will start straight after school, but I will communicate specific timings in due course. The senior boys have decided to have a black-tie evening but with a twist! The twist being a red bow tie as opposed to a black one. Therefore, could I please ask that your son brings either a dinner or a plain black suit for the evening. Normal school uniform will be sufficient should there be any problems obtaining the above. In addition to this, school uniform will also be needed for academic lessons throughout the day.

The theme for the evening will be "The Caffinites Nightlclub".

On Friday, 13th December, the school will hold its annual Christmas Carol Service. This is a compulsory event for all pupils and will start at 5:30 pm. More details will be distributed by Mrs. Rochester in the weeks leading up to the end of the term.

Finally, as mentioned before half term, invitations will be sent next week to you for a parents' drinks reception on Friday 25th January 2025.

The evening is always a fantastic way of meeting the House staff in an informal environment and a way of putting names to faces. It is also an evening where you will be able to meet other parents too. The event will start at 7pm and should finish by approximately 9:30pm. If you would like to attend, please could you RVSP using my email address: a.mcmillan@dcsf.org.uk

Have a great weekend,

Mr. A McMillan
