Thank you to Mrs. Pollard for this week's Friday flyer. The week began with our annual House Music competition and for the first time in several years, an outside venue allowed a much larger audience, adding an extra dimension to the efforts to 'polish' Pimlico's performances. The setting of the cathedral always provides an atmospheric and serene backdrop to the school events which take place there, and this was no exception, yet the characteristic inter-house competitive spirit was palpable. The girls are to be congratulated for their upbeat and up-tempo performance of 'Walking on Sunshine', and there has to be a special 'well done' to all those who are new to the school and house this year and who took to the stage in the competition for the first time. In particular, a shout out to our Year 7s, some of whom were excellent front row examples of true house spirit as they gave their best to the performance. Pimlico's part song 'Skyfall' was an ambitious and challenging choice, but rehearsals and the performance on the night proved that, not only did we have the singing talent (in abundance) to carry this off, but we really could challenge for a win. Let's just say that things became a little controversial concerning a scoring penalty about weather references, but we maintain that as James Bond's ancestral home is in a remote and misty part of Scotland, Skyfall must refer to what comes from the sky in that area. We are magnanimous in defeat this year, and look forward already to next year's theme. Special thanks to our part song performers on the night: Francesca W; Sienna A; Evie C; Clemmie W; Matilda A; Cati A; Clara MA; and Julie A and Lucy G on violin and guitar respectively. Despite the first very thin snowfall of the season this week, sport has continued, and Wednesday saw the 1st Netball team compete in the Netball Nationals. Several girls from Years 9 to 13 in Pimlico took part; congratulations go to Ava F, Hannah R, Sophie S and Rosa B. Our Celebration Friday this week has got to be in the main a call out for Matilda A and Lucy G in Y13 for House Music and the amount of time and effort they have given over the last few weeks to organise the house and bring it all together on the night. What is always heartening to see is that, as the House Music competition reached its climax, some of our girls are already getting underway with rehearsals for the next school production, and enjoying embarking on their work towards another end performance once again. However, this Friday morning also saw the House celebrate Polina M. Champion chess player that she is, she was part of yesterday's team who made it through to the second round of the National School's Chess Championship. Well done, Polina! Finally, a reminder that we have Year 10 Parents' Evening on Tuesday, which coincides with a welcome rise in the forecast temperatures and the disappearance of the little white flakes from the icy ground. Stay warm this weekend! |
