Bungites

A very warm welcome back and I do hope everyone had an enjoyable half term. It was lovely to see the boys on Monday and it was clear that they have recharged their batteries!

Movemeber

Here in Bungites, November is our month to support the Movember Charity and raise awareness of the superb work they do in supporting men's health. The charity is one that is close to many of our hearts so please forgive me if your inbox bombarded with information! In house meetings this week, I have begun speaking to the boys about the charity and the work they do. The Movember website is a superb resource and contains so much useful and helpful information; I urge you to check it out if you haven't already done so. The final plans are being put in place for our 60 for 60 Team Challenge (getting over 100 boys off timetable is a feat in itself!). The link to our Movember page is now live and I have pasted the link below. Please feel free to share it and I promise you the boys will work hard for their sponsorship money. Lets try and raise as much as possible. On Wednesday the 27th November we will be having a Cake Sale so please get the boys involved!

I would like to give a special thank you to Fergus F, Ed D, Andrew S and Mason A who led our house chapel service all about Movember on Wednesday morning. The boys pitched their talk perfectly and they have received lots of glowing feedback.

Drama

As you many of you will know, Zac H has been filming for a movie and has been away this week for his final few days of filming. It sounds like he has had the experience of a lifetime though I have a sneaky feeling this may not be the last time he is filming a movie.

Sport

Firstly from the holidays, Durham Small Boats Head and Long distance sculls took place on the last day of the holidays. All crews performed well on home water and navigated the infamous Elvet bridge well. Ed D, Alexander P-L, Jonny M. Matthew W, Jason W, Luca R-T, Charlie R all put down some good times in there quad and double combinations.

Back to this week, our 1st XV were in action down at QEGS Wakefield in the national cup on Tuesday. There was a strong Bungite representation in what was a narrow defeat to an always strong Wakefield XV. The boys were disappointed and felt they could have been more clinical. Our U17 XV won an excellent game against Sedbergh School on Wednesday with both sides playing some eye-catching stuff. Again, strong performances from the boys in Bungites with Louie M, Lewis S and Spencer S catching the eye. The ever dependable Rowan B was solid and all the boys played their part. Our U14/15 XV also beat a spirited Sedbergh XV with our very own Tom R playing really well. Yesterday, our Removes (7&8) all headed to Yarm for a block fixture. The boys played well with wins for the As and Bs in both year groups. Arthur T and Jesse the standout players on the day.

Music

House music is just over a week away and the boys are working hard. We arranged height order this morning, tweaked some of the song and are going to be working on our 'performance' next week. We are in a good place and I am so proud of the boys for trying their best for the house. Remember, the competition is on the 18th November over in Cathedral and everyone is invited.

Academic

Despite only being back a few days, we have racked up a number of achievement awards this week so my congratulations go to the boys below:

Seb C, Joseph W, Miles V, Spencer S, Freddy R, Dani A, Harry P, Oliver OSB, Louie M, Thomas X, Evan M, Vincent H, Simon G, Toni G, Lucas F, Miles F, Jesse E, Charlie D, Oliver H, Robert Z, Marcus H, James H, Sam F , Tom R & Arthur T

This afternoon is our Remeberance Service and is always a poignant occasion. As we walk through school today it is almost impossible to imagine the lives the boys who went off to war experienced so this afternoon's service is a chance for us to show our respect to those young men. The words' We will remember them' are some of the most important that are spoken anywhere in school throughout the year.

Have a lovely weekend.
