Just like that, the end of the first half-term is upon us. The summer holidays are a distant memory now, as everyone is focusing on the upcoming Christmas term and the festive activities. Despite the shift in weather at the start of this week, with frost and less daylight, the boys' spirits remain undaunted. I have been impressed by their enthusiasm and determination to end this week on a high.

House Music has been the topic of conversation, with the boys spending a considerable amount of time preparing for the competition. The competition will be hotly contested on 18th November, as each House will perform a unison and part song in the Cathedral. My thanks go to our Head of House, Zack H, for arranging and conducting both elements.

Our U15 rugby team put in a spirited performance in the 2nd round of the National Schools Cup on Tuesday afternoon, losing 17-10 to Barnard Castle. The boys displayed tremendous grit and determination throughout the match, making it a closely contested affair from start to finish.

Last week's Open Day was a tremendous success, and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the pupils who helped make it such a memorable morning. Over 140 families visited the Foundation, and our pupils did a fantastic job showcasing everything we have to offer. Their professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication were evident throughout the morning, and I received numerous compliments from visiting families about how well our pupils represented the school. A special thank you to the Year 9 boys, who, despite their rugby fixture being cancelled, came in to give me a helping hand giving House tours to visiting families. Their willingness to step in at short notice, dressed smartly in full uniform, did not go unnoticed! The entire school community played a part in making this Open Day a success, and I am proud of everyone who contributed.

As mentioned in last week's Friday Flyer, our Year 7 Burger and Film night, this will now take place on Wednesday 6th November. Mrs. Gordon, Mr. Thompson, and I are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to spend quality time with the Year 7 boys. The evening will start at 4:30pm and conclude at 6:30pm I kindly ask that the boys come dressed in comfortable clothing. Additionally, if they wish to bring along any sweets or popcorn, please feel free to do so; we encourage a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.

The lost property bag is quickly filling up, so I kindly ask you to check that your son has all his uniform and sports kit, as many items remain unnamed. Additionally, please ensure that all clothing is clearly labelled, as it becomes challenging to return lost items without a name. Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

As mentioned in my welcome letter at the start of this academic year, invitations will be sent to you for a parents' drinks reception on Friday 24th January 2025. The evening is always a fantastic way of meeting the House staff in an informal environment and a way of putting names to faces. It is also an evening where you will be able to meet other parents too. The event will start at 7pm and should finish by approximately 9:30pm.

If you would like to attend, please could you RVSP using my email address: a.mcmillan@dcsf.org.uk

Have a great half term.

Mr A. McMillan
