Having completed the first full cycle of a timetable, term is certainly now in full swing. Extra-curricular activities have started and girls' prep diaries are also filling up. Please could I ask you to encourage your daughter(s) to make full use of clubs and societies run in the school? We advise pupils to attend at least two per week, in the full belief that such a programme builds confidence, creates interests and enhances education. It's great to see that many girls have already signed up, but I know there are others who are yet to do so. In the spirit of extending horizons, we're certainly proud of Lucy G this week as she took part in the GNR. As someone who has suffered injuries in the last couple of years, this was a tough new challenge not made easier by the hostile weather. But Lucy ran with perseverance, motivated by her fundraising for 'Grace House', a charity close to her heart. Well done! As always, the joy of my work in the House is spending time with its residents, both day and boarding. One such moment last weekend involved pizza, a TV screen and a couple of hours of Just Dance. It turns out that some of our boarders are groovy movers and have quite some stamina. Rasputin isn't for the faint hearted! I look forward to another chance this weekend to get to know our new, and catch up with our previous, boarders. It has been an equal pleasure snatching hasty chats with our day girls as they race down corridors, munch toast in the kitchen or wait for parents at the end of the day. It's amazing how much we can find to talk about! The new academic year marks the start of our new custom: 'Celebration Friday'. This means that in our Friday house time, we will always share and enjoy something positive from the week gone by. This could be a member of the House who has achieved something noteworthy or someone who has demonstrated one of our values in a particular way. In a bid to foster a spirit of kindness, of excellent role-modelling and of good ambassadorship for the school, Celebration Fridays will encourage girls to strive high and do their best. Today saw a plural commendation extended to the year 10 girls for scoring the highest number of lauds as a tutor group this term. Lacey D came first in the group, with second places awarded to Dorothy A, Poppy C, Lucia J, Ria P and Ruby W. Well done! Before I bid you a happy weekend, I'd like to draw your attention to a date for the diary. Alongside the New Parents' drinks on 19th September, the monitors would like to host a pizza and film evening for Pimlico years 7-9 from 4.30pm -6.30pm. For the bargain price of £1.50 each, girls can enjoy pizza, fizz, a feel-good film and plenty of chat, knowing that the common room is theirs for a happy couple of hours. Have a great weekend. |
