Pimlico House

We know it's September when fresh faces, happy chatter and impeccably organised school bags populate the corridors, studies and bedrooms of Pimlico House. Once again, such sights are a real pleasure to behold. To witness renewed energy of all members of the House and to feel the enthusiasm in the air is always lovely. I trust this means that girls begin the new academic year with drive and ambition, having enjoyed a restful summer. It's a particular pleasure to welcome new members to the House, some of whom have travelled from countries far and wide to join us. A happy mix of nations, regions and locals continues to be a distinct characteristic of Pimlico and I, for one, look forward to getting to know all our newcomers. Perhaps this may even involve a little culinary exchange as we soon encourage our boarders to cook food from their respective countries! This year we welcome Mrs. Pollard in her new capacity as Deputy Housemistress and also extend a welcome to our two resident tutors: Miss Pollard and Miss Longden. I look forward to working with Mrs Pollard and all the Pimlico team as we venture into this academic year. The photograph this week show girls receiving their start of year 'Zuckertüte'; a tradition from Germany which we have adopted (and slightly adapted!) and which certainly heralds our appreciation of other cultures. What better way to begin a term than a home-made cylinder stuffed full of sweets?! As girls gathered for first time earlier this week, they were reminded of the 'spirit' of Pimlico. Alongside the importance we place on showing kindness to others and on embracing the extensive opportunities provided here, I also reminded girls of our motto: Destitutus Ventis, Remos Adibhe: When the wind will not serve, take to the oars. The term will certainly gather pace and become more demanding. In their enthusiasm for the start of a new year, I trust that Pimlico girls will remember their grit. In our endeavours, we stay optimistic. |
