Tuesday’s Science Fair was a great success and was a fantastic opportunity for pupil-centred learning. I was very impressed at the vast range of investigations and exhibits that the children had planned and their explanations and demonstrations were excellent. Thank you to the parents who joined us; it was so lovely for the children to have your enthusiasm and engagement in their learning. My thanks to Mr Campbell for his organisation and oversight of an impressive 100 exhibits for the event!
Alongside the Science Fair, our Friends of DCSF Afternoon Tea was well supported. Thank you to Mrs Black and the Friends team for giving their time.

Complimenting the Science Fair theme, we welcomed Mr Okoye to launch our Science Fair with an engaging assembly presentation and to share his expertise about renewable energy and wind farms. The children, and staff, were amazed by the sheer scale of the current wind farm developments, particularly finding out that one turbine blade is the length of a football pitch and weighs the same as 30 elephants! Mr Okoye provided fascinating insights on the latest developments in wind farm technology and their impact on helping the planet by reducing the use of fossil fuels. His interactive presentation sparked the children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for exploring sustainable energy solutions, which Year 5 and 6 are now continuing to explore in more detail during their Science lessons.

The cricket season is well underway and the children have enjoyed a number of fixtures, including all our Year 3 children travelling to Barnard Castle for a cricket festival with eight other schools.

Yesterday, Pre-prep enjoyed their Sports Day in the glorious sunshine! It was a very successful morning with every child contributing points towards their House totals. Kingsgate took the House trophy this time round. Mr Muchall and his team put together a great programme and the morning was as wonderful success.

Some of our Year 5 and 6 children have been involved in choral activities at St John’s School, Bishop Auckland ahead of a performance in Auckland Castle later this afternoon. Our Cathedral Choristers head to St Mary’s, Edinburgh tomorrow to join Evensong. Good luck to all involved.

Next week, our close of year activities begin on Tuesday with our Move Up Day.
