Another busy week which has seen Geography field trips, GCSE Drama performances, senior school play auditions, Heretics talks, bunting making, and Halloween decorating! The girls are getting into the spooky spirit and scary doorbells, spiders and cobwebs keep appearing in studies. I hope the Year 10 and 11 girls are looking forward to their pumpkin carving social on Monday! However, this week our main event has been HelloYellow! Where we raised money for the charity, YoungMinds, helping them give support to young people and their families if they are struggling with their mental health. A brilliantly appropriate colour for the house and a bright, happy, way to mark World Mental Health Day (10th October)! The girls certainly pulled out all the stops and wore bright shoes laces, bobbles, hair clips and ribbon to mark the event. On the morning, the girls learnt about with YoungMinds helps with, and how the money we raise can help people in need. LWE was all about mental health and how we can help each other and help ourselves when it comes to our mental health and how being screen-free can help us being present, appreciative and more connected with one another. In our quiet room this week we have had 'Doodle pages' to encourage the girls to draw, doodle and be creative. The bake sale on the 10th, was also a huge success (!) and the quiet room was packed out with pupils and teachers wanting to get their hands on our baked goods! Each person that bought a cake got a yellow sticker, so they too could show their support of YoungMinds. Please have a look at the attached slide from YoungMinds which tell you more about the charity.
As the end of half term approaches (I can't believe it!) I would like to take the opportunity to outline what happens when we close our doors on this section of the academic year. All pupils are expected to attend the end of Half term service in the Cathedral. Pupils go over to the Cathedral after lunch, as a school, and the service starts around 3pm, finishing around 4pm. Parents are welcome to attend the service. Pupils then walk, with the rest of the school, back to school site. Pupils must then be collected from school from 4pm and the House closes at 4:30pm and school buses depart at 4:30pm. If a pupil needs to be collected from the Cathedral, I must have an email explaining this. Thank you. Lady of Lodge This week's Lady of Lodge goes to Maggie (Yr 7) who has been selected for Duram County Hockey, along with Durham County Netball! A brilliantly brave thing to go up for selection and a great achievement! Well done, Maggie! Upcoming dates for your diary Saturday 12th October: Open Morning! 9am-12:30 Monday 14th October: Year 10 + 11 social (Halloween themed crafts, cost £4) Friday 18th October: End of half term. Thursday 14th November: Official Lodge House opening! 5 – 6:30pm Monday 18th November: House Music in the Cathedral Monday 25th November: Year 8 and 9 Social (Christmas crafts) Other things to note: Please can we ask that parents do not drive round the back of Caffinites when dropping off/picking up their daughter(s) - this causes massive amounts of congestion. Thank you. I am away on the last two days of half term (17/18th Oct) on a Drama school trip. Mrs Fordyce will be in charge, so please email her for anything you may need. |
