HUGE Congratulations!!

Our very our Grace in Year 13 has just been selected for the 15-woman squad to represent England at the ICC Women's U19 World Cup in January. The tournament will be held in Malaysia and we will be watching from MacLeod very closely to see how she gets on. Congratulations, Grace!

In netball news, Gabrielle P has been scouted to join the Leeds Rhinos North East Player Development Programme. This comes off the back of her being selected for the South Durham and Cleveland county squad a couple of weeks ago. A wonderful achievement, well done, Gabrielle.

Half Term Collection

A friendly reminder about collection on the day we break up for October Half Term, Friday 18th October. We have our half term chapel service at Durham Cathedral – it is a wonderful opportunity for the whole school community to come together in such a spectacular building. We will all return to the house at approximately 4pm so the girls can gather their belongings and be collected - MacLeod will close at 4.30pm latest, please ensure your daughter's can be collected by that time and the school bus will go early at 4.30pm from the quad too. If you would like to collect your daughter straight from the Cathedral, please email me by Tuesday 15th October.

Winnie Mabaso Foundation – Tragic News

The Foundation have been hit with some tragic events this week. 5 houses in their community have burnt down and the homes destroyed, leaving 10 people homeless, including 5 children. Miss Myers has been in touch with the team at WMF and we will continue to support the Winnie Mabaso Foundation through fundraising at school, but if you would like to contribute a donation to helping these families rebuild their homes and lives, you can do so via our fundraising link: Winnie Mabaso Foundation: MacLeod House, Durham School (enthuse.com)

MacLeod Christmas Hamper Raffle

Next week we will be launching the MacLeod Christmas Hamper Raffle to the girls in house. We will be seeking donations for two types of hamper, one for adults and one for teenagers (senior school age). Tickets will be sold to parents and pupils over the next half term to raise money for our House Charity, The Winnie Mabaso Foundation and house activities. More details will be sent to parents next week, so do look out for that communication.

Sports Review

Netball

The U15 team played the first round of the national competition, Sisters in Sport Shield – the girls played some brilliant netball and after a tigh start, they finished with a 10-goal win against Newcastle High. The 1st and 2nd VII played in the Durham Area tournament and faced some strong opposition from Durham Johnston and Park View. The girls will look to improve on their performances and results at the County round of the National Schools Competition in November.

 Hockey

The U14 hockey team progressed through the County Cup to the Area Final which was played on Tuesday. The girls faced tough opposition against Barnard Castle, Dame Allan's and Yarm, and despite some humbling results the girls didn't give up and defended valiantly. The U15s had a brilliant game against RGS last week which resulted in a 5-5 draw. The 1st XI played Ampleforth last week and narrowly lost 1-0 after conceding from a short corner. In the County Cup on Wednesday, the girls played out of their skin, were unbeaten on the day and a clean sweep of goals across the games from MacLeod girls Libby, Millie and Bella. Results: 0-0 vs Dame Allan's, 1-0 vs Kings, 4-0 vs NHSG, 1-0 vs RGS. The girls placed 1st and go through to the next round of Nationals which will take place in November.

We look forward to House Hockey next week where we will go up against Pimlico and Lodge. The girls will be donning their green tops and facepaint, hoping to destroy the opposition on the astro! Tuesday P5/6 – Y9 and Y10 Wednesday P5/6 – Y11, Y12 and Y13 Thursday P5/6 – Y7 and Y8

Rowing

Tees Head, 05/10/24. The boat club had a successful race at Tees Head last Saturday, bench marking their position for the start of the Head season. Ellie H rowed up an age category with Natalie Y from Lodge House - an impressive performance given the tough competition made up of older athletes. Olivia T took on the 1x field, with the fiercest competition of them all. The margins between herself and the other single scullers in this category are narrowing- promising an exciting season ahead. Niamh K coxed the boys j18 4x+, who finished fastest in their event.

Good luck to all those girls competing in the Tyne Head races this weekend! We look forward to hearing about the event next week!
