Year 9 Social

On Wednesday evening the Year 9 girls gathered after school to enjoy some cake decorating! The girls had lots of fun and it was lovely to see them enjoying spending time together and coming up with some very creative cakes, perhaps inspired by the new series of the Great British Bake Off!

Year 12 Careers Trip to St James's Park and Parents Evening

This week was a busy one for Year 12; they enjoyed an informative trip to St James's Park in Newcastle for a careers and apprenticeship event. The girls reported that it was a useful trip and it opened their eyes to a number of post-18 opportunities. Thursday saw them attend Parents Evening which I hope proved useful in terms of speaking to all of their teachers about their progress so far.

Half Term Collection

A friendly reminder about collection on the day we break up for October Half Term, Friday 18th October.

We have our half term chapel service at Durham Cathedral – it is a wonderful opportunity for the whole school community to come together in such a spectacular building.

Parents are welcome to attend. We will all return to the house at approximately 4pm so the girls can gather their belongings and be collected - MacLeod will close at 4.30pm latest, please ensure your daughter's can be collected by that time and the school bus will go early at 4.30pm from the quad too.

If you would like to collect your daughter straight from the Cathedral, please email me by Tuesday 15th October.

Open Morning – Saturday 12th October

It is School Open Morning next Saturday on Saturday 12th October, this is a reminder that all pupils are expected in that morning 8.45am-12pm.

Year 7 Parents Evening – Thursday 10th October

A reminder to Year 7 parents, next Thursday is a chance for you to meet with your daughter's teachers about the start of their academic journey here at Durham School. There will be an early tea at 5pm for pupils.

Netball Congratulations

Congratulations to Gabrielle P in Y9 who has got into the U15 South Durham and Cleveland County Netball Squad and Isla G in Y8 who has got into the U13 North Durham County Performance Programme. Jess W has been selected for Grangetown's Premier League 1 squad and the North East Leeds Rhinos U19 NPL squad. Well done, girls!

Charity Work

Ellie in Y9, along with with Jason in School House, has been striving towards rowing 100km in September to raise money for the Bone Cancer Research Trust. Ellie has been working incredibly hard towards this target and between them they have raised over £1400. We are so very proud of Ellie for all her hard work and the example she sets for the rest of the girls in MacLeod.

Good luck to all those girls competing in the Tees Head races this weekend! We look forward to hearing about the event next week!
